Creator 5 firmware 1.9.9 can't be rolled back
FlashForge's September firmware adds skip-object, more materials and exFAT USB support, and FlashForge says that once it's installed you can't go back to an earlier version.
We haven't tested this yet
FlashForge released Creator 5 firmware 1.9.9-1.3.0 on 7 September 2026.
Its release notes carry an unusual warning: “After upgrading, this version
cannot be rolled back to V1.9.8 or earlier versions via online or USB drive.
Downgrading may result in unknown errors.”
What’s new
From FlashForge’s release history:
- Skip Object, used from Flash Studio Mobile 1.13.0 or later.
- New material presets: BVOH, ASA-CF, ASA-GF, ABS-GF and PPA-CF.
- USB drives formatted as exFAT or NTFS now work.
- Nozzle information is read from 3MF files.
- Hidden Wi-Fi networks, better Wi-Fi stability, and better print quality at low layer heights.
- A startup safety change “to prevent unintended nozzle heating after startup”.
Why the no-rollback note matters on a new printer
FlashForge’s upgrade guide says that when a Creator 5 first connects to Wi-Fi or Ethernet, it checks for new firmware and offers it over the air. The offer can be declined. Accept it once, though, and the machine stays on 1.9.9 or later.
If you care which version your printer shipped with, write it down from Settings → About before the printer goes online.
Custom firmware
The community firmware project Reforge supports the standard Creator 5. Its documentation uses stock 1.9.7 as the package you flash to return to stock. On a printer that has taken 1.9.9, FlashForge says that downgrade isn’t supported. Reforge’s maintainer has said 1.9.9 support was fixed, but the project’s own docs hadn’t caught up when we checked. Treat the way back to stock as unverified until it’s documented.
Separately, FlashForge’s after-sales policy excludes damage caused by “unauthorized modification” or “non-Flashforge specified software”. We found no statement specific to the Creator 5.
What we’re doing
Our Creator 5 hasn’t arrived yet. We’ll record its shipped firmware before it touches a network, and this page will say which version we test on.
