XL

Up to 5 toolheads, whole-toolhead exchange

Our photograph of this machine goes here. We only show photos of units we have in front of us.

Overview

The Original Prusa XL: a large-format toolchanger that takes up to five toolheads. Ours has all five.

Each XL toolhead is a complete Nextruder with its own hotend, nozzle and filament, parked on a rail at the back of the frame until it's needed.

In August 2026 Prusa replaced the Original XL with the XL+, and the old product pages now describe the new machine. The specifications on this page are for the Original XL, which is what we have.

What we haven't checked yet

  • Real tool change time, including priming and wiping.
  • How much material each change wastes.
  • Alignment between all five tools over a long job.
  • What changes if we fit the XL+ upgrade kit.

Where to buy

Manufacturer first, then other stores we've checked. We don't show prices until we can keep them current.

Prusa no longer sells the Original XL new. Its replacement, the XL+, is a different machine, and Prusa sells an upgrade kit that converts an XL into an XL+. We'll add both once we've looked at them properly.

Sources and history

We bought this XL ourselves. Prusa has no say over what we publish about it.
